What is a yoik? What does it feel like to yoik? In this class, you will be introduced to the Sámi way of singing by Iŋgor Ántte Áilu Gaup (Ailloš) who learned to yoik as a child when he grew up in the very North of Norway. He will guide us step by step, letting us repeat short yoik-sections until we know the complete melodies. We will also learn about the special rhythms, structure, and background; we will learn yoiks for animals, people, and places. This class is great for beginners and singers alike. Join the fun and be surprised what your voice can do!
